2. Server Log Files

When you access this website, the hosting provider automatically collects information in so-called server log files, which your browser automatically transmits. These are: browser type and version, operating system used, referrer URL, host name of the accessing computer, time of the server request, and IP address. This data is not merged with other data sources and serves exclusively to ensure trouble-free operation and the security of our information technology systems (legal basis: Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. f DSGVO, legitimate interest).

3. Google Analytics

This website uses Google Analytics 4, a web analytics service provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland ("Google") - but only if you have explicitly consented in the cookie banner on your first visit. Without your consent, no Google Analytics script is loaded and no analytics cookies are set. In this case, the legal basis is your consent (Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. a DSGVO i. V. m. § 25 Abs. 1 TDDDG).

If you consent, Google Analytics uses cookies or comparable technologies that enable an analysis of your use of the website. The information generated in this way (including IP address, pages visited, time spent, device used) is transmitted to and processed on a Google server; this may include servers in the USA. According to Google, the IP address is used during collection to derive location information and is then discarded before the data is stored. Further information is provided by Google on regional data collection in Google Analytics 4.

You can revoke or subsequently change your decision at any time:

Upon revocation, further data collection by the Google Analytics tag on this page is deactivated, and Google Analytics cookies already set by this website are deleted from your browser. Alternatively, you can also prevent data collection by Google Analytics by installing the browser add-on for deactivating Google Analytics or by preventing your browser from storing cookies from this website.

Further information on the handling of user data by Google Analytics can be found in the Google Privacy Policy.

Your choice in the banner is stored in your browser's local storage so that it can be taken into account on further visits to the pages. You can reset your choice using the button above or remove it by deleting this website's data in your browser. The banner controls Google Analytics. The fonts, data retrievals and YouTube content described in the following section are loaded independently of this choice.

If you select a research area as a filter on this website, this choice is also stored in your browser's local storage so that it is retained when you move to another page. It is purely a display setting. It is transmitted neither to us nor to third parties and contains no personal data. You can remove it by resetting the filter to "All" or by deleting this website's data in your browser.

4. External Links and Embedded Content

This website also embeds resources from external providers. When such a resource is retrieved, your browser establishes a direct connection to the respective provider. In doing so, the provider receives in particular your IP address, the resource requested, and technical information transmitted by your browser, such as the browser type; depending on your browser settings, the referring page may also be transmitted. These connections can occur simply when a page or an embedded content item is displayed, without you clicking on an external link.

Google Fonts

For the display of fonts, we use Google Fonts. When you access the pages, your browser loads the associated stylesheets and font files from fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com, unless they are already cached in the browser. These requests also occur if you decline Google Analytics. Information on processing by Google can be found in the Google Privacy Policy.

Current Research and Publication Data from GitHub

On the research and publications pages, your browser retrieves current public metrics and publication information from raw.githubusercontent.com This includes information on software repositories as well as publication and citation metrics. The data is regularly compiled for this website and made available on GitHub. For this update, your browser connects to GitHub; the displayed Google Scholar and OpenAlex metrics do not trigger any direct request from your browser to Google Scholar or OpenAlex. These GitHub requests are independent of your Analytics choice. Further information can be found in the GitHub Privacy Policy.

YouTube Thumbnails and Embedded Videos

For news items with videos, thumbnails may be loaded from img.youtube.com as soon as the browser displays or preloads these images. If you open a news item with an embedded video, your browser may load the player from www.youtube.com or www.youtube-nocookie.com already before playback starts. These requests are not tied to consent to Google Analytics. Loading the player and playback may generate further requests to Google or YouTube services. Information on their data processing can be found in the Google Privacy Policy.

External Links

Individual pages of this website link to external services (e.g. GitHub, ORCID, Google Scholar, LinkedIn, YouTube, ResearchGate). By clicking these links, you leave this website; the operators of the linked pages are solely responsible for data processing on those pages.

5. Your Rights

Within the scope of applicable legal provisions, you have the right at any time to free information about your stored personal data, its origin and recipients, and the purpose of the data processing, as well as a right to rectification, blocking or deletion of this data, and a right to data portability and a right to object to the processing.
